Athens recently played host to Data Week 2025 from May 26th to 28th, an event that gathered leading minds and innovative projects at the forefront of the data economy. Among the distinguished participants, the PISTIS project made a significant impact, expertly represented by our Scientific and Technical Coordinator, Sotiris Koussouris from SUITE5.
Sotiris, a recognized expert in the field of ICTs, with a deep understanding of Big-Linked-Open Data, AI/ML, and Data Analytics, brought invaluable insights and contributions to the discussions. His presentations underscored PISTIS’s commitment to advancing trustworthy data sharing and its pivotal role in shaping the future of data. For those who attended, we trust his sessions provided a compelling look into the latest advancements and the challenges being addressed in this dynamic sector.
Here’s a closer look at the key themes and discussions from Sotiris’s two engaging sessions:
Unlocking Value and Ensuring Trust: Monetisation & Governance Across Diverse Sectors
One of the central discussions revolved around Monetisation & Governance Across Mobility, Embedded Finance, and Trustworthy Data Sharing. This session offered a comprehensive exploration of how organizations can effectively extract value from their data while simultaneously upholding robust governance frameworks. Attendees were introduced to innovative methodologies, including those from the DATAMITE project and OTE’s Pluto framework.
A particularly impactful aspect of this session was the collaborative spotlight on projects like PISTIS, focusing on trustworthy data sharing, alongside FAME (in the media sector) and MobiSpaces (in mobility). This showcased how diverse sectors are actively confronting and overcoming data monetization and governance challenges. The critical importance of security, interoperability, and compliance in today’s intricate data landscape was a recurring and emphasized point throughout the discussion.
Shaping the Future of AI and Data Spaces: Insights into Data Trading and Pricing
Sotiris also played a key role in the EUDATA+: Solutions for Data Trading and Pricing (Insights for the Future of AI and Data Spaces) session. As a valued member of an engaging Experts Panel, he contributed to a deep dive into the commercial value of data and its transformative potential for AI and burgeoning Data Spaces.
The panel discussed essential Data Trading and Pricing methods, highlighting their vital role in successful data commercialization and in fueling innovation. The session’s objectives were clear: to equip participants with a thorough understanding of the current state of these methods, to pinpoint existing gaps and research challenges, and to offer insights into best practices and tangible real-world solutions. Furthermore, this EUDATA+ cluster session provided crucial input for defining the BDVA Strategic Research, Innovations and Deployment Agenda for Europe (SRIDA). By identifying long-term challenges and offering building blocks not yet fully covered by the DSSC blueprint, PISTIS, through Sotiris’s participation, directly contributed to the strategic roadmap for Europe’s data future.
Data Week 2025 was undeniably an inspiring week, filled with opportunities for learning, networking, and exploring the cutting-edge advancements driving the data economy forward. The PISTIS project is immensely proud of its contributions to these vital discussions on trustworthy data sharing and its foundational role in shaping the future of data.
